Copy Trading Across Different Brokers: A Pre-Flight Checklist for Symbol and Lot Differences

Different-broker copying is less about connecting two terminals and more about translating the same trade into a different trading environment. Symbol names are the obvious difference; contract size, volume steps, and margin rules can matter just as much.

Map the instrument first

Compare the exact Market Watch names and verify the chart represents the same market. Test an example such as XAUUSDm and GOLD.i# on demo before using a live follower.

Check volume math

The same lot number may not represent the same exposure if contract specifications differ. Confirm the follower's minimum volume and step, then choose a fixed or scaled rule deliberately.

Watch margin and rejection reasons

A follower can reject a trade even when the symbol is mapped correctly. Read the terminal and copier logs for margin, volume, market-closed, or stop-level messages.

A sensible way to test it

  1. Write down the expected result before sending the demo trade.
  2. Check the terminal history and the copier logs, not only the chart.
  3. Change one setting at a time so you know which adjustment fixed the issue.

TradeCopierr is designed to make the copying route easier to inspect, but the final setup still depends on your broker, account type, symbols, permissions, and chosen settings. Use a demo account while you are learning the behavior, then decide whether the setup is appropriate for your own risk plan.
